The name “Enoch” appears 12 times in 11 verses of the King James Bible: 9 in Genesis and 3 in the New Testament. It names two men and a city. Enoch who “walked with God” is named 9 times; the Book of Enoch is not part of the Bible.

How we counted

Rule: whole word, any case, in the verse text of our King James Version file. A letter, digit, underscore or hyphen next to the match disqualifies it, so a form never matches inside a longer word; possessives such as “’s” stay in. An occurrence is one match; a verse counts once however many matches it holds. This is the same rule as our Bible word counter.

Which Enoch? Two men and a city

Son of Cain (and the city named after him)3Genesis 4:17, Genesis 4:18

Genesis 4:17 uses the name twice: once for Cain’s son and once for the city Cain named after him. The other nine uses all name the son of Jared, the father of Methuselah, who “walked with God: and he was not; for God took him” (Genesis 5:24).

The KJV also spells the name “Henoch” 2 times, not included above: 1 Chronicles 1:3 is the same son of Jared, and 1 Chronicles 1:33 is a grandson of Abraham through Midian. Counting too, Jared’s son is named 10 times.

Is the Book of Enoch in the Bible?

No. The Book of Enoch (1 Enoch) is not among the 66 books counted here, and it is not in the Catholic or Orthodox canons either; only the Ethiopian Orthodox Church includes it. Jude 1:14–15 quotes a prophecy of Enoch that closely matches 1 Enoch 1:9, which is why the question comes up.
