Reflection
Biblical hope is anchored in God's faithfulness rather than in easy circumstances. calls God "the God of hope" and prays that believers would be filled "with all joy and peace in believing." Hope is not something you have to manufacture. It is something God gives as you trust him.
describes hope as "an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast." An anchor does not stop the storm. It keeps the boat from drifting while the storm is still blowing.
says this hope "maketh not ashamed," because God's love has been poured into our hearts. Hope is not wishful thinking about outcomes. It rests on being loved by someone who keeps his promises.
Prayer
God of hope, I am running low on it. Fill me with joy and peace as I trust you, not because everything has resolved, but because you are faithful. Be the anchor that holds when I feel pulled away. Pour your love into my heart again so that this hope does not put me to shame. Amen.
Pause and consider
Write one sentence of hope and put it where you will see it tomorrow.
